My good friend Scott Burland asked a while back for me to contribute some music towards a long-term project, a kind of "song-of-the-month" club with the prime subscriber/intended audience his mother-in-law. It's a wonderfully sweet gesture, and a chance to balance creative freedom with accessibility. Our schedules finally came into alignment, and what we both imagined would be a session yielding raw material instead became, before our eyes, ears, and hearts, a complete arc, what they used to call an album. There are levels of spontaneity within the spontaneity that instantly engendered huge smiles. We decided on the spot it was in the spirit of things to release this posthaste. I love the moments of alignment and the continual blurring of who is doing what. The textures are pleasing to me, familiar and surprising. Relaxed and spacious. Our individual contributions create an entirely different whole. Please enjoy and thanks for listening.
