Over years of playing together, Brad Bassler and I have learned to work with each other's phrasing and dynamics in a meta-intuitive way. Our musical mindmeld is taken to the outer limits in this "piano duo"...Brad here performs entirely with his left hand. I'm playing 6-string electric guitar translated into MIDI, in approximation of a right hand piano technique, and sounding as a unison hybrid of Bösendorfer grand with the plinky single-stringed Una Corda. The only discussion we had was the duration of our playing...all musical decisions were made on the spot without consultation or access to our partner's recording. Brad is in spacious-spontaneity-transcendence mode as I (mostly?) avoided guitarisms in favor of hyper-idiomatic lyricism. I feel this meeting has been very successful. In the absence of in-person contact, an augmented analogue is our best pursuit. Be well, and thanks as always for listening.
