My good friend Tim Schroeder is primarily an amp builder these days, though he once made exquisite guitars in a former incarnation under the Schröder name. My trip to visit him up in Illinois was made even better knowing I'd be playing a Schröder archtop recently in his possession and restored to full musical and playable glory. I was a bit nervous about the prospect of a full recital using only a fretted guitar and no amplification. (What are frets? What is the nature of performance nowadays without it all cranked up?) I give special thanks to Mike Corsa and Nathan Salon for creating an opportunity to play for WNUR radio's audience. Nathan did a fantastic job hosting and engineering, though the station is undergoing a slight overhaul, so he couldn't capture what was broadcast. What you hear here is my field recorder recording exactly as played, audible breath Keith Jarrett-style and all. This particular guitar is an exemplary specimen with strong projection, detail, nuance, and malleable character. It's a perfect instrument. And a long-time dream of mine come true...playing an classic archtop guitar all by itself, completely exposed and finding new ways to be expressive, innovative (I hope?), referential and reverential squeezed through arguably the most widely/commonly-heard instrument of the last 50 years...but all things change. What we call music increasingly is generated by computer now; the bots are self-aware, but there's still something about wood & wire. Anybody? Thanks as always for listening.

Killick Hinds- Schröder Ayre archtop acoustic guitar circa 2000
One of my favorite albums ever! It beautifully captures the sound and spirit of where we live. I was honored to be the engineer for the session, and it is a highlight in my history as a record mogul. Killick
