This is the first time since March I've had an in-person musicmaking session. We were spaced further apart than before and masked, though the magic of working together overrode any weirdness. My dear friend and fellow sonic explorer Jeff Crouch brought a new lyricism and boundless creativity to this day, exactly one year after another cherished session we had on the verge of Jeff's scheduled major surgery; thankfully, he has been recovering well and growing stronger ever since. This time together is precious and soul-affirming. As is our usual, we improvised without any discussion of structure...it all came together beautifully and is heard here in the same order we played. I love the range from pastoral reflection to changes to off-kilter groove to rarefied inner states of calm and hope. The title comes from one of my favorite stories...what Miles Davis said to a freshly mustache-free John Oates. Perhaps there's a pinch of some of their musical innovations in the mix. :-) Thanks as always for listening and be well.
