Some projects work on a very different timescale than the ones to which we're accustomed. I met Ravish Momin 14 years ago when he came through Athens on tour with the Sabir Mateen Quintet. We shared a mutual love for Carnatic saxophonist Kadri Gopalnath as well as Swedish demiurges Meshuggah, happily tracing the threads between them and much more in the aesthetic universe. Fast forward to our first collaborative musical interactions (after a long interval of our own separate musical developments). We first played a duo set before a very attentive audience...it was a natural fit, though both of us worked hard to keep pace with the musical demands. And the next morning, a studio session, a chance to spread out and check in with current currents and new news in musical and social potential. I think you, kind listener, will agree there's some happening synergies on display. This was recorded completely live, with no edits, and for my part no effects other than use of the Vo Wond and an onboard killswitch. Ravish's drums retain the flexibility of the acoustic approach, yet with electric sounds we usually hear quantized and preordained. This is flexibility and fluidity with an expanded timbral world, like no free improvisation I've heard before. Please enjoy, and thanks for listening.
